Steve Cranston, Steve Cranston Associates Perspective: Practitioner Date: Wednesday, 27th September | Creating and sustaining good partnerships - especially those that cross sectors and discplines - is one of the most urgent priorities.
We need far more case studies of partnerhips that have been successful as well as more honest debriefs on ones that have hit problems.
I am involved with a partnership between a multinational renewable energy developer and social enterprise - working on bringing forward a windfarm development that will deliver environmental, economic and social returns for both shareholders and local communities.
It can be done - so why does best practice tend to languish as isolated examples? | Elaine Cohen, Potential One ltd Perspective: Consultant Date: Wednesday, 27th September | I view multistakeholder partnerships as critical to creating optimal levels of positive social change. My Company consults to a multi-stakeholder initiative in Israel which is making significant progres in achieving unprecedented levels of stakeholder collaboration. The process is not easy, requires perserverence and unlimited energy, but the leverage created through partnering is tremendous. I fully support the declaration. | Anonymous Perspective: NGO / practitioner Date: Thursday, 28th September | This is a fantastic idea! I look forward to seeing the number of signatories grow... | Linda Cruse, Associate IBLF Perspective: Creating public-private partnerships Date: Tuesday, 3rd October | I read your partnership statement and I felt that you had really captured something very special there and wanted to congratulate you and your co-creaters. Excellent. I have been based in Thailand as an Associate of IBLF assisting with the formation of The Thailand Business Partnership post-tsunami.
CSR and Partnerships are relatively new in this part of Asia and I have been developing a partnership between corporate members and a royal NGO under the office of HRH Princess Sirindhorn that covers remote border hilltribes in Thailand. The NGO went from being most suspicious of us, to welcoming us to be their first ever public- private paternership. Participants from three companies and myself have just returned from a three day field trip to a very challenging area on the Thai/Laos border with the NGO as our hosts. With a very clear focus to assist this rather desperate community, it was very exciting to see the barriers disappear and the understanding of each others assets, strengths and weaknesses unfold. I intend to read your partnership statement out at our next partnership meeting as I feel it encapsulates most clearly what partnership is all about. Thank you. Again congratulations. The Declaration shall be basis of our development programs to enhance social capital and institutional reforms in rural governance. | Maria Lourdes Arcenas, Mindanao Business Council (Philippines) Perspective: Adviser-Sustainable Development Date: Tuesday, 14th November | It has been one year since I participated in the PBAS and I am fully convinced that only through partnerships can we Mindanawans achieve the elusive goal of peace and development. The Mindanao Business Council is making headway in its campaign for Sustainable and Responsible Investments (SRI) because of partnerships with the various stakeholder pillar institutions and organizations in Mindanao -- national government, civil society, academe, church, local government, women, private sector. Together Mindanao is rising to build a strong middle class, achieve peace and good governance through people-to-people dialogues and concerted initiatives.
I am personally committed to continue to build partnerships in every oppotunity possible as the means to creating a more positive future for our children and generations to come.
Let us support the Partnership Declaration with all our heart and action. That is truly living sustainability. Mabuhay!
